A FOREIGN woman in her 40s was treated at the sexual assault unit in Cork, amid reports that she had been sexually assaulted in a hotel bedroom in north Clare on Christmas night.
An employee of The Falls Hotel in Ennistymon contacted gardai after a man complained that an incident of a sexual nature had taken place and that his wife was in a distressed state.
Gardai arrived on the scene in the early hours of St Stephen’s morning and the 100 guests who were staying in the hotel at the time, were all interviewed. However, a garda source told The Clare People that the woman declined to make a statement.
The people involved in the incident were all non-nationals, who are not living in Ireland.
They had been socialising together in Clare during Christmas and have since left the jurisdiction.
“The woman’s husband discovered her in a distressed state in a bedroom. A member of staff contacted us, suggesting the woman may have been assaulted and she was transferred to the sexual assault unit in Cork, where she was examined, before being taken back to the hotel,” said a garda source.
The garda confirmed that a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the matter.
