TWO Clare-based representatives have been appointed to the board of Shannon Development, by Enterprise and Employment Minister, Micheál Martin.
The appointments of Ennis businesswoman, Joan Reynolds and Shannon-based accountant, Tom Barrett, have yet to be formally announced, but The Clare People understands that they have been sanctioned in the last few days.
Ms Reynolds is a financial consultant based in Ennis, while Tom Barrett – son of the late Fianna Fáil Minister, Sylvester Barrett – works as an accountant in the Shannon Free Zone.
Their appointments were yesterday welcomed by Senator Brendan Daly (FF). “I am very happy that Clare will now be much better represented on the board. They are two excellent people with a wide knowledge of the issues facing the region.
“I always felt that Clare didn’t have sufficient interest on the board in recent times and this has now been addressed,” he said.
Senator Daly said that the two were “very well regarded in Clare.
“Their appointment comes at a very critical time for Shannon Development.
“ I believe that there was a general feeling that the board needed a new dynamism and the appointments made by Minister Martin will achieve that.
“The appointments are also very good for Ennis and should provide a welcome boost to the Information Age Park Ennis project.”
