A LAKE popular with tourists has been closed due to the outbreak of a toxic algal bloom.
Clare County Council has erected signage around Lake Inchiquinn advising people not to enter the lake after an outbreak of blue-green algal bloom. The council took the measures after a dog which had drank water from the lake died. Another dog, which had also been in the lake, fell seriously ill but recovered soon after. The dogs were owned by two English tourists who were visiting the Corofin area last Saturday, June 3. When the incident occurred, they took the sick animal to an Ennisbased vet. Signs were subsequently erected by the county council on the Monday following the incident.
